We are Sayo & Jomi, twin sisters passionate about the multidimensional elements of wellness, including fitness, nutrition and mindfulness. Let’s face it, our wellness is a lifelong journey that should be enjoyable, not confined by restrictive diets and endless weight loss challenges.
We embrace a holistic and authentic approach to wellness that prioritises evidence-based and culturally relevant practices; we call it our Sustainable Slay. As twins, we understand how crucial inclusivity is in wellness. Even when we follow the same diet and exercise plans, our bodies respond differently. Wellness is not one-size-fits-all.
Every Body Is Unique
At Ejire Okin, we are committed to celebrating diversity, kicking against narrow standards and fostering a more inclusive society where everyone is empowered to achieve their own version of wellness.
Why Did We start?
The Problems
Although mental health issues like anxiety can be invisible, we know they are real. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as obesity and depression, are responsible for nearly 70% of all global deaths but are surprisingly preventable through lifestyle changes. However, poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyles, mental health stigmas and health misinformation continue to contribute to the rise of NCDs.
Health Misinformation
The desire for quick solutions to our health concerns often leaves us vulnerable to adopting unhealthy practices like fad diets. Social media, with its rapid spread of misleading “quick fixes,” amplifies this dilemma. The spread of health misinformation through social media poses a significant threat to public health. Unfortunately, despite efforts to combat the problem, the dissemination and engagement with false information persist. Misinformation through social media could harm and hinder individuals from achieving their health goals, derailing personal wellness journeys. Now more than ever, relying on trustworthy sources for health information is important.
The Solution
Holistic Wellness
Our wellness blog was born from our shared experiences of wellness needs, struggles, and barriers. We recognize that wellness is not just the absence of disease or the presence of toned abs. Using well-researched methods, we curate wellness content and services that support holistic well-being. We prioritize mental health care, nourishing our bodies with wholesome nutrition, embracing self-care rituals, and engaging in movement that supports our strength and stamina. This holistic approach to wellness aligns with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO emphasizes the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and social health, recognizing that healthy habits across these dimensions contribute to overall well-being.
We want you to have access to credible, reliable and relatable information that empowers you to cultivate a balanced and fulfilling holistic lifestyle encompassing all aspects of your health. One of our unique offerings is “The Daily Dose”, a creative fusion of powerful affirmations and popular Afrobeats songs designed to increase self-love and combat negative self-talk. With the incorporation of cultural elements, this powerful self-care tool becomes more enjoyable and relatable. By promoting culturally relevant resources, we aim to break cultural barriers, promote inclusivity, and empower individuals to make informed choices about well-being, promoting optimal health and improved quality of life. Our mission goes beyond surface-level aesthetics and focuses on nurturing our overall vitality and happiness.
Our Story
Our brand name, Ejire Okin, represents our rich royal African heritage. In West Africa, twins are revered and celebrated, often seen as a special blessing bestowing joy and abundance on their family. Ejire Okin is a Yoruba praise name exemplary of this, associating twins (Èjìrẹ́) with the regal peacock (Ọ̀kín).
Our birthday is the first of April, and we were born two minutes apart. Interestingly, in the Yoruba culture, although Sayo (Taiwo) is born first, Jomi (Kehinde) is considered the older twin. We are princesses from Ijebu-Igbo, a town in Ogun State, Nigeria.
